British-Sierra Leonean, Ejatu Shaw, Features on Glo Sponsored African Voices

This week, London-based photographer and artist, Ejatu Shaw, will be guest on CNN International's African Voices magazine program, sponsored by Globacom.

The British-Sierra Leonean talent was born in 1996 and graduated from the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom with a Master's degree in Photography Arts in 2020.

Shaw first fell in first love with photography during a family vacation to her home country of Sierra Leone in 2013. Influenced by African studio photographers of the 1960s and 1970s, such as Malick Sidibé from Mali, Sory Sanlé from Burkina Faso, and Omar Yahia Barram from Sudan, among others, her images explore the complex facets of her identity by fusing aspects of her Islamic faith and African heritage.

Shaw thereafter started creating visual reflections based on her own recollections from the previously stated sources. Since then, she has explored and expressed her ancestry via her work, experimenting with self-portraiture and developing more deeply rooted themes.

She was recognized as a New Wave Creative by the British Fashion Council in 2025. In the same year, she took pictures of Usain Bolt for Puma, Cynthia Erivo for The Guardian, Sunday Times, and Vogue, Angela Bassett for EBONY. She also designed singer Craig David's album cover.

African Voices shows on Saturday at 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. On Sunday, the viewing continues at 3.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. with further repeats on Monday at 3 a.m. and 5.45 p.m.
