These are some red flags in a relationship that you should watch out for:
- Controlling behavior: They always have a say in what you wear, how you act, or what you post on social media.
- Constant monitoring of your whereabouts: They’re not concerned about you; they’re concerned about whether you’re doing anything out of line.
- Hot-and-cold attitude: They’re affectionate today, but don’t want to talk to you the next.
- Guilt-tripping: They use emotional manipulation to isolate you from your family and friends, and to get their way.
- Gaslighting and blame-shifting: Whenever you argue, they either try to make you question your reality and feelings or shift the blame to you. They do anything to avoid taking accountability for their mistakes.
- Anger issues: They can’t control their anger. Worse, they have aggressive outbursts that result in you getting hurt.
- Constant lying or secrecy: They hide their phone, lie about who they’re with, or only tell you half-truths.
But remember, some red flags in a relationship are more subtle, like their lack of empathy, unwillingness to compromise, or their constant making fun of your preferences.
So if you feel uncomfortable or trapped in your relationship, listen to your gut. It might be telling you that something’s wrong.
