Ojo Adekimi, Kwara police commissioner
The Kwara State Police Command has uncovered how a suspected collaborator, Mose Anjorin allegedly lured a friend, Tosin Oladipupo to a cashew farm for a planned abduction.
The Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the suspect invited the victim under the pretext of harvesting cashew but secretly alerted kidnappers.
“The collaborator knowingly took a friend to a cashew farm and called kidnappers to abduct both of them,” Ojo said.
He, however, said the victim escaped and reported the incident.
The police chief disclosed that the suspect later slumped and died while investigations were ongoing.
“While we were working to get to the root of the matter, the man slumped and died,” he said.
He added that investigators are analysing the suspect’s phone to track other members of the gang.
He warned of the growing involvement of local collaborators in kidnapping, noting that while major gangs are under pressure, smaller community-based actors remain active.
Despite the suspect’s death, the police said investigations are still ongoing, with attention now focused on digital evidence.
“We are working on his phone, which we believe will aid our investigation,” he added.
“We discovered that the major criminals are hiding now because there is a lot of onslaught on them, but there are these local ones that have mixed with the local community,” he added.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling both the external kidnapping networks and their internal collaborators, urging residents to remain vigilant and assist security agencies with credible information.
